Counting The Days Until...

My family's roots come from Oklahoma. It was my Great Uncle Charlie who participated in the Land Rush of 1893 securing not one, but two claims for our family in what was then called Oklahoma Territory.

Oklahoma is rich in history. But history in all its beauty cannot replace the time that God has called us to live in today. Looking back serves one purpose - to see the hand of God leading His people, which includes my family and yours, to know and love Him. The thread of God's faithfulness weaves through all of history showing how He is faithful to complete the work He's begun in us.

Oftentimes, man attempts to preserve the past so they can glory in what they have accomplished in their lives; it is said to give their lives meaning and purpose. However, if they fail to know God in their pursuit of history, then any attempt to preserve life as they knew it is vain and worthless.

For instance, in order to commemorate Oklahoma's centennial celebration (2007), a time capsule was buried in 1957 in the front yard of Tulsa's Courthouse. Actually, the capsule was a huge cement vault that held a brand new 1957 gold Plymouth Belvedere. The hopes were to give this pristine collectible to the one whose relative guessed most closely the population of Tulsa in 2007. The events didn't unfold the way they had hoped, for the vault had a leak allowing water to completely ruin the car. Their hopes were in vain, and their treasure was destroyed.

This car represents man's attempts to hold on to the temporary things of this world for our own pleasure. The Bible says in Matthew 6:
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust [5] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The word "history" represents the only story that matters - His Story. God came to the earth in the form of a man to save sinners like you and me. That is a story that never grows old no matter who tries to bury or silence it's message. Christ, Himself, was buried and raised to New Life - and this single act produced the greatest gift of all - eternal life! This is a treasure that will remain forever.
