I'm not a huge sports fan, but I grew up in a Florida Gator home! My brother graduated from UF College of Pharmacy in 1977, and most of my cousins went there as well.
When Jesse Phillips set up his "Together 4 The Madness" bracket for the March Madness college finals, I was compelled to give it a shot. I was motivated by Carolyn Mahaney's approach to selecting her brackets each year - whichever team came from a state that meant something to her; Now that's something I can relate to!!!
So, I joined my first ever March Madness pool and went to the bracket board to select the team I thought would win. Who did I pick? Since the Gators weren't in the competition (I don't even know why!) I had to go with picking a team I knew nothing about! In looking my choices over, I saw that the Kansas Jayhawks was one of the #1 teams from one of the four conferences. Since I'm writing a book about my grandmother, and since she was born in Neodesha, Kansas, on March 2, 1889, I decided to pick Kansas! Who knew that they would win, and I would be the winner of this little competition? All I can say is, "What a game, Jayhawks! Big Mama would have been proud!" I must say that I'm proud too, but that's another post!
